SUPPLY CHAIN STUDY

This study was commissioned by GSA and conducted by Lions Peak LLC and Santa Clara University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This study conducted research into the dynamics of the electronics industry supply chain, and sought to test the following hypothesis:

  • Concurrent product, process and supply chain design are key strategic imperatives to the longer-term sustainability of early stage semiconductor companies
  • Strategic mutual dependency is an essential ingredient to the survival mix
  • This continuously evolving, highly modular industry requires new supply chain technologies to both reestablish and optimize value chain linkages and improve the ability to make key operational decisions

It seeks to understand:

  • Best practices in an industry environment that dictates outsourcing not only for capacity but also for knowledge
  • Best practices in time-to-market
  • The role of technological innovation and product differentiation in withstanding the pressures of price erosion, particularly in a down market.
